Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center
is sponsored and owned by the South Carolina Baptist Ministries for the
Aging, Inc., a non-profit South Carolina corporation and one of the operating
units of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The Center, in its
16th year, is operated by a capable staff of 175, headed by a licensed
health care administrator, Mr. John Medlin. |

Authority |
The Department of Consumer Affairs and Department
of Health and Environmental Control have responsibility for the issuance
of a continuing care retirement center license and annual inspections as
to operations. |
Location
and Site |
Martha Franks is located in the Upstate of South
Carolina, in Laurens County. The site is comprised of 55 rolling
acres. The community incorporates a main complex which houses many
common areas including: residential care rooms, central kitchen, dining
facilities, chapel, and central monitoring room providing security throughout
the campus. |
| The Continuum |
Martha Franks offers independent living in apartments,
patio homes, and cottages; residential care studio rooms for those desiring
a little more help with their daily activities; and skilled nursing care,
including a specially designed wing for patients with Alzheimer's or other
dementia-related disorders. There are 60 independent living units
with an expansion underway, and 81 residential care studio rooms.
The skilled nursing center opened an additional 44 beds in January, 1996,
bringing the total number of beds to 88. The Center's health care
facility is certified for Medicare and Medicaid with limited beds available.
There is also a Medicare approved rehabilitation program available.
Currently 240 residents live in 229 residences/beds at the Center.
When completed, the current expansion of the cottage community will increase
this number by 30-50 people and 32 residences. |

Residents of Martha Franks come from all walks of
life and many different locations. They are predominantly South Carolinians.
Past professions and vocations represented include: doctors, professors,
homemakers, pastors, teachers, and both small business owners and corporate
officers. |
